Why contract addresses matter

Users often assume that a token named USDT must be the asset they intended to receive. That is not enough. A misleading or unrelated token can use a similar name or logo. The contract address is a much stronger verification signal than the display name.

If the contract does not match the reference for the network you are checking, the asset does not match that reference.

BNB Smart Chain note: BNB Chain identifies 0x55d398326f99059fF775485246999027B3197955 as USDT-6D8 / a BSC USDT representation. Tether’s current supported-protocol page does not list that address as a native BNB Smart Chain USD₮ contract.
